It’s a fight to save the church for the memories of all the people married, baptised, worshipped, and had the last goodbyes in life there

Happening Now

Recent Past

The church was deconsecrated and fell derelict after the business that used the church went into administration.

Andrew Cuthbert bought the church at auction and has owned the church since 2015 he has hoped since then to bring the church back into use as a centre of the community.

Although the congregation have moved we ask why could this spiritual centre not serve the young people of today a place that can bring young people, particularly those less well-off in a place to meet and share ideas from which they can grow together, benefitting from the experience of our community.

After multiple break-ins over the years, arsonists finally achieved the razing of the church in April 2022.

Heritage

Although St Andrew’s Church has for almost a decade been out of use for some time it has a long and proud history as part of the heritage and culture of Alexandria.

Some links to the history and other sites including information on the church can be found below:

Future

If you want to be part of the future of the St Andrew’s Church site please donate as little as £0.01 to the church building so as to receive updates and become part of the growing movement to bring St Andrew’s church back into action.

Multiple ideas exist each with their own difficulties, levels of buy in and costs:

  • Redeveloping the church
  • Building a new community building in the spirit of the church in the current site
  • Developing other projects such as a community garden

Unfortunately all of the above require funding and as a result we are engaging with the community and funders to enable one or other of the plans to go ahead.

In the event the plan doesn’t work the site will need to be sold.

You will receive updates on:

  • Actions impacting the building and the site
  • Be able to share ideas with others involved in the project
  • Be able to bring your ideas to the owner of the building so they can be incorporated into a future plan
